About The Last Night ~ by Zafar Abbasi

by Zafar Abbasi

In the continuum of monotonous time,
The momentum of life goes on and on,
The dim flicker of twisting candlelight,
Shuffles the pages of vitriolic memoirs,
On the sullen and melancholic sand dunes,
Twilight shimmers all the night along,

Today but upon the weary heart,
Snippets of body fall as cumbersome drag,
Drafts of sulky airs flounce upon a waft,
Cold breeze of the horrid dreary night,
Is breathing the last hiccups and snuffles,
The touchstone turbulent dusk on the cemetery,
Treads along the trees winking and blinking,
As though trickling of ruddy drops in the abattoir,
Upon the parched eyebrows, the brimming eyes,
Are about to shed the tears of mourn,
Every shadow ruffles countless scorn,
Every remembrance winks through,

On the forlorn and forsaken avenues,
The lights flicker and exude their spleen,
As if the mendicant are being fed,
Into the plush abodes of novae-riches,

Cinders sputter into the fireplace,
Breaking the quietude muteness of night,
Darkness prances as a serpent swirls,
Trees vacillate, wobble and twirl,
Amid the trails of corridor’s curl,
Dense smog and miasma add to the furl,

There is least hope for crack of Dawn,
Ennui of life foments sorrows spawn,
Your callous smirk is the last prone,
It shall culminate upon a new morn.
